A MUST have for MSU fans everywhere!
By D. Roberts
This is a terrific compilation that details the history of the men’s basketball program at Michigan State University. From the earliest years of MSU hoops to the arrival of Jud Heathcoate in the 1970s to the shift in venue from Jenison Fieldhouse to the Breslin Center to MSU getting a National Power beneath coach Tom Izzo – it is all explored in this DVD.
The “stars of the show,” of course, are the MSU basketball players. Many of the players referenced and interviewed in the DVD now have their names hanging from the rafters @ the Brez. Such names as “Jumping” Johnny Green (pre-Magic Johnson, the greatest name in MSU hoops history), Scott Skiles, Steve Smith, Shawn Respert, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Mateen Cleaves, Morris Peterson – they’re all here!
The greatest seasons come underneath review as well, such as their original Final Four in 1957 and the historic National Championship yr of 1979 which pitted the very original match-up among Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. The 2000 Championship season is recounted, and we also get to relive the 2005 NCAA tournament where MSU beat Duke & Kentucky back-to-back to get to the Final Four. Great stuff!
If you are in any way, shape or form an MSU fan, then this belongs in your DVD collection. MSU hoops fan will find it oozing with nostalgia of great tourney wins, National Championships, extremely pleasing players who wore the Green & White and likewise some delicious clips from MSU’s 52 point drubbing of arch-rival Michigan in 2000. In short, it’s a can’t miss. If the Spartan leader Lycurgus were alive today, this DVD would utterly be in his collection! GO STATE!!
